The asset

Native currency of the Kaspa network (proof-of-work blockDAG using kHeavyHash, GHOSTDAG protocol, ten blocks per second since the Crescendo upgrade) Issuer: No issuer: an open-source network with no formal governance body, maintained by developers and contributors. The project grew out of the research of Yonatan Sompolinsky (founder) and was funded before launch by the company DAGlabs, backed by Polychain Capital for about $8 million, then dissolved; Shai Wyborski and Michael Sutton are among the main developers. The MiCA white paper filed by LCX AG (Liechtenstein) names Yonatan Sompolinsky and Shai Wyborski..

KAS pays the Kaspa network's transaction fees and rewards miners. The supply is capped at about 28.7 billion KAS; the block reward decreases each month by a factor of 2^(-1/12), so it is halved every year. Mainnet launched on November 7, 2021. According to CoinMarketCap, 27.74 billion KAS in circulation as of October 7, 2026 (rank 61).

Why this verdict

  1. Permissible purpose : met. KAS is used to pay transaction fees and to transfer value on the Kaspa network, and rewards miners; the use is described by the project wiki and by the MiCA white paper filed by LCX AG.
  2. No riba : met. Holding KAS pays no yield: all KAS are mined, the network is proof-of-work and new coins go to miners, not to holders. No lending is involved in a spot purchase.
  3. No gambling : met. A spot purchase covers a network's native token, freely transferable and used to pay fees; it is not a contract on a price difference.
  4. No excessive gharar : met. The issuance rules are published: a cap of about 28.7 billion, a decreasing reward on a schedule set by the code, and no presale or token sale declared. No one controls issuance: no protocol administration key or issuer treasury was found (a community development fund exists, see autres_constats); the developers are identified. Two points are reported as information: DAGlabs and Polychain are said to have mined, after launch and under the same conditions as everyone else, less than 3% of the supply (project statement, not verifiable on-chain), and the transaction history from before March 2022 is missing from explorers, while the current state of the chain remains verifiable from a genesis proof.
  5. Real ownership : met. KAS can be withdrawn to a wallet the user controls: the official site describes buying on a platform and then transferring to a private wallet, and the MiCA white paper states that the token is supported by non-custodial wallets. The choice of purchase platform was not studied.
  6. No fraud or manipulation : met. No sanction and no established deception of KAS buyers was found; the AMF blacklist returns nothing for “kaspa.” A public accusation exists (a 2023 blog article calling the launch a “fraud” because the network was restarted two weeks after it began and no history exists before 2022): the project responds on its wiki, and no regulator or court has ruled; accusation with no known follow-up, information under Halal Bourse's rule. The team is identified. The GoPlus scan does not apply to a native currency.
  7. Réseau ouvert et généraliste : met. un outil neutre

Tolerance case

T1. KAS is the native currency of an open network (proof-of-work: any miner can take part, no issuing entity or formal governance body) used for payment, and whose Toccata upgrade (June 30, 2026) added layer-1 programmability; the “general-purpose” nature remains that of a payment currency, as with bitcoin or Dogecoin. No issuer earns revenue from holding the token (T2 and T3 not applicable).

Contract security scan

Not applicable: KAS is a native currency; the starting file lists no contract on another chain. No GoPlus scan was therefore run (rule A.8: the scan does not apply to native currencies).
