The asset

Native currency of the TRON network (layer 1 smart-contract chain, 27 elected Super Representatives) Issuer: No single issuer: the TRON DAO and the Tron Foundation run the project, which was founded by Justin Sun according to press reports.

TRX pays network fees (transaction bytes, contract execution), can be staked to obtain resources and voting power, and is used to vote for the 27 Super Representatives. The network hosts the largest stablecoin network (USDT TRC-20). The supply is not capped: TRX is issued as block and vote rewards and burned as fees.

Why this verdict

  1. Permissible purpose : met. TRX pays the fees of a general-purpose network whose documented use is mostly stablecoin transfers (USDT TRC-20). For gambling, the only measurement found dates from 2019 (64% of the network's decentralized applications); no recent measurement was found.
    • « TRON is a high-throughput blockchain that hosts the largest stablecoin network in crypto (TRC-20 USDT) and an active DApp ecosystem. » TRON (developer documentation) (2026-10-05)
    • « TRX is the native token of the TRON network. It pays for transaction fees, secures the network through staking, and grants governance rights » TRON (developer documentation) (2026-09-30)
  2. No riba : met. Simple holding pays no yield derived from a loan: the token confers no right to profits or dividends; the rewards, which are TRX issued by the protocol, go only to the Super Representatives and to holders who stake their TRX and vote.
    • « ownership of TRX does not confer any legal rights to profits, ownership, dividends, or control over the TRON DAO or the protocol itself. » LCX AG (livre blanc MiCA TRON, v1.1) (2025-08)
    • « new TRX is minted as block production rewards and voter rewards (incentivizing participation in consensus) » TRON (developer documentation) (2026-09-30)
  3. No gambling : met. The spot purchase is of a token recorded on the TRON blockchain, transferable and burned to pay fees; it is not a contract on a price difference.
  4. No excessive gharar : met. The attached rights, the initial allocation and the issuance and burn rules are documented; the supply is not capped (peak of about 102 billion around mid-2022, then a decline). The initial allocation is reported based on CoinMarketCap and Binance Research, not on an issuance register.
    • « Purchasers of the TRON (TRX) token acquire a digital token that grants them access to core functionalities within the TRON blockchain ecosystem. » LCX AG (livre blanc MiCA TRON, v1.1) (2025-08)
    • « the total TRX supply rose from genesis through approximately mid-2022 (peaking around 102 billion), then entered a sustained deflationary trend. » TRON (developer documentation) (2026-09-30)
  5. Real ownership : met. TRX is held with a key pair and can be transferred to a personal wallet (TronLink, Ledger) without an intermediary.
  6. No fraud or manipulation : to be verified or tolerated case. In 2023, the SEC charged Justin Sun and his companies with selling unregistered securities and manipulating the TRX price through wash trades; the case closed on March 9, 2026 with a final judgment ($10 million paid by Rainberry, claims against Justin Sun and the Tron Foundation dismissed), with no finding on the merits. An analytics firm notes that the network, mainly for USDT, is used in illicit flows. The largest account holds about 10.4% of TRX.
    • « FINAL JUDGMENT AS TO DEFENDANTS JUSTIN SUN, TRON FOUNDATION LIMITED, BITTORRENT FOUNDATION LTD., AND RAINBERRY, INC. » CourtListener (dossier SEC v. Sun, 1:23-cv-02433) (2026-03-09)
    • « the regulator had also alleged the defendants “fraudulently manipulat[ed]” TRX's secondary market through an “extensive wash trading” scheme. » CoinDesk (2026-03-05)
  7. Réseau ouvert et généraliste : met. un outil neutre

Tolerance case

T1. TRX is the native currency of an open general-purpose network: anyone can stake TRX and vote for the 27 Super Representatives elected each round. Factual reservations: the founder was a party to the SEC case closed in March 2026, the largest account (the STRXProxy contract) holds about 10.4% of the supply, and the network is heavily used for USDT, including in illicit flows. No share of impermissible income from an issuer is published: case T2 cannot be quantified.
