Zakat al-fitr
The Prophet ﷺ prescribed one ṣāʿ of dates or barley per Muslim, free or slave, male or female, young or old, to be given before people go out to the Eid prayer (al-Bukhārī 1503 and 1509, narrated by Ibn ʿUmar). The Companions gave one ṣāʿ of food (al-Bukhārī 1510).
How much does a ṣāʿ weigh?
The ṣāʿ is a measure of volume; its weight depends on the food and on the estimate used: about 2 kg of wheat according to the majority, 2.5 kg at most collecting organizations as a precaution, about 3.25 kg according to the Hanafis. The calculator lets you set this weight.
In kind or in money?
The Hanafis allow paying the value in money; the other schools prefer food. These views are reported in the works of fiqh; ask your mosque what amount it uses. It is due for each person in your care, including a child born before the prayer.
