Zakat on gold and silver
Gold and silver held (coins, bars, digital gold, gold accounts) are subject to zakat at 2.5% of their value at the current price, as soon as total wealth reaches the threshold (AAOIFI No. 35, art. 3/1/2). The calculator accepts the weight in grams, in tola (11.664 g) or in troy ounces (31.103 g), or the value in currency.
Worn jewelry
For the majority of schools (Maliki, Shafi'i, Hanbali), gold or silver jewelry worn by a woman is not subject to zakat; for the Hanafis, it is. The calculator offers both settings and shows the difference.
The threshold
85 g of pure gold or 595 g of pure silver (AAOIFI). Other calculators use 87.48 g and 612.36 g, based on another estimate of the weight of the ancient dinar and dirham. AAOIFI ties money and trade goods to the gold threshold; another view takes the lower of the two thresholds, which today is silver.
