Is Dogecoin (DOGE) halal?
The six conditions are met for a spot purchase.
Verdict calculated by Halal Bourse's published rules from an investigation of primary sources (project documentation, registers, decisions), conducted on 10/05/2026 and not reviewed by a human.
The asset
Native currency of the Dogecoin network (Scrypt proof of work, merge-mined with Litecoin), born in 2013 as a parody (“memecoin”) Issuer: No issuer: an open-source network with no issuing entity; Dogecoin Core software maintained by contributors; the official website is signed “The Dogecoin Foundation & Dogecoin Project”.
DOGE is used for payments and tipping on the Dogecoin network, created in late 2013 by Jackson Palmer and Billy Markus. The supply has no cap: each block (about one minute) creates 10,000 DOGE for the miner. As of October 5, 2026 (14:51 UTC), CoinGecko shows 156.2 billion DOGE in circulation and a market capitalization of €13.28 billion (rank 12).
Why this verdict
- Permissible purpose : met. DOGE serves as a payment and tipping currency on its own network. Born as a parody, it is described by a U.S. fund's prospectus as having no formal purpose or utility, while still being able to pay for goods and services; no gambling, interest-bearing loan or illicit-content purpose is found.

- « DOGE is primarily intended as a parody, or memecoin, with no formal purpose or utility » Grayscale Dogecoin Trust ETF (prospectus, SEC) (2026-04-16)

- « the computer that generated this block is currently awarded 10,000 DOGE. » Grayscale Dogecoin Trust ETF (prospectus, SEC) (2026-04-16)
- « Miners make the blockchain secure and are rewarded for their work with so-called block rewards, consisting of 10,000 Dogecoin per mined block. » Dogecoin.com (Dogepedia) (2026-10-05)

- « the core developers have since implemented a flat miner reward of 10,000 DOGE per block » Grayscale Dogecoin Trust ETF (prospectus, SEC) (2026-04-16)
- Real ownership : met. DOGE is held in a personal wallet. The official website states that some platforms did not allow withdrawals to private wallets; the ability to withdraw therefore depends on the platform chosen.
- « A wallet is necessary for people wanting to use, trade, or hold Dogecoin. » Dogecoin.com (2026-10-05)
- « they are forced to do so, since some platforms might not be allowing withdrawals to private cold wallets » Dogecoin.com (Dogepedia) (2026-10-05)

Halal Bourse rule (October 6, 2026): Dogecoin has a real payment use and identified creators; it is not a token reduced to a website and a logo. Concentration and the exposure to manipulation specific to memecoins are information, not established fraud: the condition is treated as met.
