Is Avalanche (AVAX) halal?
The six conditions are met for a spot purchase.
Verdict calculated by Halal Bourse's published rules from an investigation of primary sources (project documentation, registers, decisions), conducted on 10/05/2026 and not reviewed by a human.
The asset
Native currency of the Avalanche network (layer 1 with smart contracts, proof of stake, custom blockchains) Issuer: No single issuer: Ava Labs (a U.S. company) launched the network; Avalanche Foundation Limited (Singapore, registered on June 19, 2020) is named as the issuer in the MiCA white paper.
AVAX pays network fees (burned), is staked with validators to secure the network, and serves as the unit of account between the blockchains created on Avalanche. The supply is capped at 720 million AVAX; 360 million were created at the outset, and the rest is issued as staking rewards.
Why this verdict
- Permissible purpose : met. AVAX pays the fees of a platform for smart contracts and custom blockchains, and is used for staking. No impermissible purpose appears in the sources read.
- « It's a hard-capped, scarce asset that is used to pay for fees, secure the platform through staking » Avalanche (documentation officielle) (2026-10-05)
- « Avalanche is a Layer 1 blockchain and smart contract platform for decentralized applications and custom blockchains. » VanEck Avalanche ETF (prospectus 424B3, SEC) (2026-01-23)
- No riba : met. Simple holding pays no interest: the white paper states that the token carries no right to any dividend, profit or interest; rewards are AVAX created by the protocol for validators, at the end of the staking period.
- « owning AVAX grants no governance rights in a legal entity, no entitlement to dividends, profits, or any form of interest » LCX AG (livre blanc MiCA Avalanche, v1.1) (2025-04)
- « AVAX is minted as a staking reward when a validation period ends successfully. » Avalanche (documentation officielle) (2026-10-05)
- No gambling : met. The spot purchase is of a token recorded on the blockchain, transferable and burned when it pays fees; it is not a contract on a price difference.
- « The fees used to execute a transaction on Avalanche is burned, or permanently removed from circulating supply. » Avalanche (documentation officielle) (2026-10-05)
- « the holder creates a transaction and signs it with their private key » LCX AG (livre blanc MiCA Avalanche, v1.1) (2025-04)
- No excessive gharar : met. The cap (720 million), the initial creation (360 million), the rule for issuing rewards and the burning of fees are published; the circulating supply is readable on the chain (about 475.0 million AVAX on October 5, 2026). The rights attached are limited to using the network.
- « AVAX is a capped-supply (up to 720M) resource in the Avalanche ecosystem that's used to power the network. » Avalanche (documentation officielle) (2026-10-05)
- « A fixed amount of 360M AVAX was minted at genesis, but a small amount of AVAX is constantly minted as a reward to validators. » Avalanche (documentation officielle) (2026-10-05)
- Real ownership : met. AVAX is held with a private key and transferred from one address to another without an intermediary; only staked AVAX is locked for the chosen duration.
- « the holder creates a transaction and signs it with their private key » LCX AG (livre blanc MiCA Avalanche, v1.1) (2025-04)
- « staked AVAX are locked for a fixed period chosen by the staker » VanEck Avalanche ETF (prospectus 424B3, SEC) (2026-01-23)
- No fraud or manipulation : met. No sanction or regulator alert targeting Avalanche was found, but I-SCAN could not be read. In August 2022, an anonymous site (Crypto Leaks) accused Ava Labs of paying lawyers to go after competitors; Ava Labs denied it and no regulatory follow-up was found. The top 100 wallets held about 28% of the circulating supply at the end of November 2025. Halal Bourse rule (October 6, 2026): holder concentration, an accusation with no follow-up or an abandoned complaint are information, not established fraud; the condition is considered met as long as no sanction or deception toward buyers is found.
- « As of November 25, 2025, the largest 100 AVAX wallets held approximately 28% of the AVAX in circulation. » VanEck Avalanche ETF (prospectus 424B3, SEC) (2026-01-23)
- « paid lawyers to hurt competitors and keep regulators at bay » CoinDesk (2022-08-29)
- Réseau ouvert et généraliste : met. un outil neutre
- « while acting as a validator on the Avalanche Network is permissionless (i.e., anyone can become a validator) » VanEck Avalanche ETF (prospectus 424B3, SEC) (2026-01-23)
- « although some entities, like Ava Labs and the Avalanche Foundation, and core developers like Emin Gun Sirer, exert influence through a variety of means » VanEck Avalanche ETF (prospectus 424B3, SEC) (2026-01-23)
Tolerance case
T1. AVAX is the native currency of an open general-purpose network: becoming a validator is permissionless (2,000 AVAX minimum) and any holder can delegate from 25 AVAX. Ava Labs and the Avalanche Foundation exercise de facto influence. No share of an issuer's impermissible income is published: the T2 case cannot be quantified.
