Is Shiba Inu (SHIB) halal?

Questionable

No condition fails, but 1 point remains to be verified or falls under a tolerated case.

Verdict calculated by Halal Bourse's published rules from an investigation of primary sources (project documentation, registers, decisions), conducted on 10/07/2026 and not reviewed by a human.

The asset

ERC-20 token on Ethereum, launched in August 2020 as a “memecoin”; founding token of an ecosystem (ShibaSwap, Shibarium, the Bury 2.0 voting platform, a DAO) Issuer: No issuing company: token created by a pseudonymous person or group (“Ryoshi”); development led by a pseudonymous project lead (Shytoshi Kusama); the SHIB Doggy DAO Foundation (Cayman Islands) carries out the DAO's decisions.

The supply was fixed at deployment at 1,000,000 billion SHIB and cannot be increased. As of October 6, 2026 (23:48 UTC), CoinGecko reports 589,238 billion SHIB in circulation, a price of €0.00000514 and a market capitalization of €3.03 billion (rank 35). The contract shows 999,982 billion SHIB, 41% of which sit at the “dead” address.

Why this verdict

  1. Permissible purpose : met. SHIB is the founding token of an ecosystem: the official documentation gives it a voting role (Bury 2.0, DAO), an MiCA white paper filed by a third party describes its use (governance, ShibaSwap), and its acceptance as payment is documented (BitPay, NOWPayments: autres_constats). It is not the fee token of Shibarium (that is BONE). Although it began as a parody, it is judged on this use (rule A.8 of October 6, 2026). No gambling, lending or illicit-content purpose is found.
  2. No riba : met. Holding SHIB pays no yield: the project grants neither a share of profits nor a claim, and Bury 2.0 pays no reward to date (locking is for voting only). ShibaSwap rewards belong to a separate product (autres_constats).
  3. No gambling : met. A spot purchase is of an Ethereum ERC-20 token with a fixed, transferable supply; it is not a contract on a price difference.
  4. No excessive gharar : to be verified or tolerated case. Issuance: supply fixed at deployment, with no minting and no owner in the contract (code read on Blockscout; owner() call returns no response). But the creator (“Ryoshi”) and the project lead (Shytoshi Kusama) are pseudonyms, the SHIB Doggy DAO Foundation (Cayman Islands) carries out the DAO's decisions and manages its assets, and the Shibarium bridge relies on validator keys, 10 of 12 of which were taken over in September 2025. Who controls this treasury and these keys, and whether they are unidentified, is not established: rule A.8 (unfounded anonymity) can be neither ruled out nor applied.
  5. Real ownership : met. SHIB is held in a personal Ethereum wallet (transfer between compatible wallets). The withdrawal terms of the purchasing platforms were not studied.
  6. No fraud or manipulation : met. No sanction or regulator action targeting the token or its project was found; AMF blacklist: no results; the contract scan shows no signal (scan_securite). Information items: the Shibarium bridge incident of September 2025 (securite) and a complaint against the project in 2021 (Ask The Doctor), with no follow-up found. Halal Bourse rule (October 6, 2026): information, not established fraud; condition treated as met.

Contract security scan

GoPlus security scan of the SHIB contract on Ethereum: 1,703,616 holders; top ten wallets excluding exchanges and contracts 23.1%; code published; token on GoPlus's trust list. No signal of honeypot, minting, tax, freezing or modifiable code. Reading under rule A.8: no signal, so no rug pull risk retained. The verified code contains no minting, no owner and no blacklist; the “dead” address holds 41.04% of the displayed supply. The 23.1% figure is an upper bound (not all exchanges are labeled).
